About John.

MEET JOHN COTTRELL

John is originally from Oakland, California and is formally educated in clinical psychology having earned a Master of Science and Ph.D. from Pacific Graduate School of Psychology (now Palo Alto University) in Palo Alto, CA. A psychology internship moved John to Salt Lake City in 1994. As an intern at Valley Mental Health he gained a broad range of experience including: child and adolescent psychotherapy, drug and alcohol treatment, psychological and neuropsychological testing, and group/couples therapy.

John has always been fascinated with fitness and dance. As a psychology student in California, he danced in a competing dance company, Dance Unlimited, and worked as a dancer/choreographer for a Bay Area group called The F/X Players. He formed a dance group in Salt Lake called The G-Force Dance Project that incorporated movement, performance, expression of self, and self-healing. While working as a psychotherapist in Salt Lake, John taught fitness classes ranging from weight lifting to hip hop dance aerobics. John added yoga to his fitness routine in 2000. He has been able to use his education in psychology, passion for dance, and devotion to fitness and yoga to understand and offer the benefits of a body and mind connection.

As a certified yoga instructor (RYT500), personal trainer, and sports nutritionist, John offers a variety of ways to create healthy living. He currently teaches full-time at Centered City Yoga in Salt Lake City and for The Gym Box. John started his own business in 2008 and offers Yoga Life Coaching, Nutrition Coaching, Personal Training, Private & Group Yoga Lessons, Workshops, and Retreats. His most recent endeavor is starting a men's yoga clothing line offering comfortable, functional, and affordable yoga clothing to the growing male yoga community.
